International Forum of Indigenous Peoples
The International Forum of Indigenous Peoples will be held in Krasnoyarsk from August 13 to 16 as part of the Year of Unity of the Peoples of Russia. It will bring together representatives from 13 foreign countries and 27 regions of the country.
The main theme of the forum is "Indigenous peoples in the context of biodiversity and climate." The platform will bring together representatives of government authorities, the expert community, public organizations, businesses and indigenous peoples to discuss issues of biodiversity conservation, adaptation to climate change, improvement of legislation and the application of traditional knowledge in modern environmental practices.
The forum will be attended by Anatoly Seryshev, Plenipotentiary Representative of the President of the Russian Federation in the Siberian Federal District, Igor Barinov, Head of the Federal Agency for Ethnic Affairs, Alexander Novyukhov, Senator of the Russian Federation, President of the Association of the CIS and the Far East of the Russian Federation, as well as international and Russian experts in the field of protection of the rights of indigenous peoples.
The forum program includes a plenary session, thematic discussions, an expert seminar on traditional knowledge, a meeting on preparations for the 17th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity, as well as a discussion of legislative initiatives in the field of protecting the rights of indigenous peoples.
"The Forum is being held during the preparation of Russia's updated strategy for the conservation and sustainable use of biological diversity, which involves indigenous peoples. The platform will allow discussing the key provisions of the document and developing joint recommendations," said Anton Narchuganov, Head of the Agency for the Development of the Northern Territories and Support for Indigenous Peoples of the Krasnoyarsk Territory.
The International Nordic All-Around Festival "World Unity Cup", the V Interregional Youth Forum of Indigenous Peoples of the North "Siberian Argish", and the XXI International Exhibition and Fair "Treasures of the North" will also take place during the forum. Masters and Artists of Russia – 2026" with master classes and performances by creative teams.
