Background:
- Krasnoyarsk topped the list of Russian cities with the highest levels of air pollution for three years, from 2021 to 2023. The city received the status of the "dirtiest" city based on a report by the Swiss research company IQAir.
- Despite the fact that in 2023 the annual average decreased by almost 2 times compared to 2022, in February 2023 the situation in the city was critical. The sensors detected the concentration of PM2.5 particles at the level of 90.3 micrograms/m3, which exceeded the WHO standard by 18 times. This is the highest indicator that has been demonstrated by the Russian cities participating in the monitoring throughout the entire observation period since 2017.
