As part of the Vostok Oil project, RN-Vankor (part of the Rosneft oil and gas production complex) has begun construction of an underwater section of the main oil pipeline across the Yenisei River.
The new oil pipeline crossing is a unique engineering and technical structure with a length of 5.8 km. It will be trenched along the bottom of the Yenisei and will become part of the large-scale 770–kilometer Vankor – Payakha - "Bay North" oil pipeline.
Special pipes with a diameter of 820 mm and a wall thickness of 22 mm will be used at the crossing. The weight of one pipe is 16 tons, and the total weight of the pipeline crossing is about 19 thousand tons.
The technologies and materials used in the construction of the crossing are entirely Russian-made. When designing the transport system, the experience of building oil pipelines in the Vankor cluster was taken into account.
During the complex of geological exploration and design and survey works, a site was selected for the pipeline crossing in the area of the Tochino production base, 60 km from Dudinka, with the smallest width of the water channel - 2.5 km. Part of the pipeline will be laid in the coastal zone, as the Yenisei River significantly expands its channel during the flood season.
At this stage, dredging work on the construction of the trench of the main line of the pipeline has been completed. Also, 25 vessels of various types and equipment took part in the construction work, including those with unique equipment for clearing the bottom at great depths. Dredging for the backup pipeline line will be continued next summer.
Currently, builders are preparing a specialized site (more than 10 hectares) by freezing the soil surface, which will allow starting laying pipes in a trench at the bottom of the river early next year.
In order to provide specialists with comfortable living conditions in the area of the Tochino base, the construction camp is being expanded to 520 places. More than 110 units of special equipment have already been delivered to construction sites to perform work on the pipeline crossing.
