The Polyus Krasnoyarsk gold mining company has registered a climate project implemented in the territories of the Olympiada and Blagodatnoye gold deposits in Krasnoyarsk Territory.

20.05.2024

Within the framework of the Polyus Krasnoyarsk project, it built and reconstructed several substations and overhead power transmission lines and transferred some consumers in the territories of the Olympiada and Blagodatnoye fields from coal- and oil-fired power generation to less carbon-intensive power supply from the networks of PJSC ROSSETI.

The implementation of the climate project will ensure the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions with a total volume of over 4.1 million tons of CO2 equivalent for the period up to 2028.

Alexey Vostokov, General Director of PJSC Polyus: "For more than five years, Polyus has been consistently moving towards reducing its carbon footprint. In 2021, the transfer of the Group's assets to the supply of hydroelectric power and compensation of the remaining small part of emissions due to "green" certificates allowed us to cover 100% of our electricity needs from renewable sources. We continue to maintain this level. The climate project registered by Polyus Krasnoyarsk is the first step towards the company's participation in the emerging market of carbon units. Moreover, we are testing and planning to implement new projects to reduce the carbon intensity of production, which in the future may also become climate-friendly."

Recall that the investment project "Increasing the production and processing capacities of the Blagodatnoye field", which is being implemented by Polyus in the Krasnoyarsk Territory, is included in the Yenisei Siberia KIP.
