In Moscow, at a meeting of the Council of World-class Scientific and Educational Centers chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko, the results of the assessment of the activities of the country's scientific and educational centers for 2022 were announced. The Yenisei Siberia Climate Research Center has taken a leading position in the ranking of Russian centers, which will allow it to apply for more substantial grants from the federal budget in 2023.

24.07.2023

During the meeting of the Council, the heads of regions presented reports on the work of the NOC for 2022. Mikhail Kotyukov, the head of the Krasnoyarsk Territory, reported to the members of the Council on the results of the activities of the Yenisei Siberia Scientific and Educational Center.

Since last year, the range of activities of the NOC has significantly expanded. In addition to the tasks related to the environmental development of Siberia, climate change, the development and application of advanced production technologies, two more priority areas have been added to the center's program – food security, as well as electronics, radio engineering and communication systems.

One of the main achievements is the completion of the development of an autonomous forest fire extinguishing management system. The pilot sample was presented to Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Victoria Abramchenko.

A meta-analysis of information on the state of forest ecosystems in the Krasnoyarsk Territory and trends as a result of climate change has been carried out. An assessment of the carbon-absorbing potential of the forest ecosystems of the regions of "Yenisei Siberia" is given. It was also possible to start the implementation of a long-term integrated forest-climatic project of PJSC NK Rosneft in the territory of the region. This will make the Vostok Oil project one of the lowest carbon oil and gas projects in the world.

Active work is underway on projects in the field of the aluminum industry and agriculture. In addition, the concept of sustainable development of the "green infrastructure" of the Norilsk agglomeration has been developed and is being implemented. An assessment of climate risks has been carried out and measures have been developed to adapt to climate change for regional authorities and large enterprises, which will significantly reduce the risk of negative consequences.

Mikhail Kotyukov, Head of the Krasnoyarsk Territory:

"Such a mechanism as a scientific and educational center allows us to combine the efforts of scientific, educational and industrial organizations to solve complex complex tasks. Currently, a strategy for the scientific and technological development of the region is being developed on the basis of the Yenisei Siberia Research Center. In the future, it will become the basis for an updated program of REC activities, which we plan to submit to the REC Council by the end of the year."
